Ten Differences Between Toronto and the Rest of Canada
Living in Canada's largest city may feel like a privilege: your city is better known than most provinces, people from almost every country has a relative there and it's always growing.
But Toronto and the rest of Canada can be very different. Here are ten demographic differences between Toronto and...everyone else in Canada.
1.) Gender: In both Toronto and the rest of Canada there are more women than men. But in Toronto that difference is wider: In Toronto about 52% of residents are female whereas in Canada generally it is 50.4% female.
2.) Religion: About 75% of Torontarians identify as being Catholic, Protestant or Agnostic. It stands out as having a very large Muslim minority at 8.2% compared to Canada's at 3.2%. Toronto is less Catholic and Protestant than the rest of Canada in general with 13.4% identifying as having a faith other than Catholic, Protestant or Islam whereas it is 5.6% Canada wide.
3.) Language: 24.8% of residents of Canada don't speak English or French, while that percentage is high it's even higher in Toronto where 30.9% did not speak any of Canada's official languages.
4.) The Elderly: In 2011 there were slightly more elderly residents than in Canada generally.
14.4% of the residents of Toronto were sixty-five or older whereas in Canada the percentage is only 12.8%.

Early Results on the Views of Americans

I.) Who was Surveyed?
A small sample of 36 American Millennials and 63 older Americans were surveyed.
For this Survey "Millennial" refers to an American born on or after 1982.
II.) Free Speech
Americans were asked whether or not they supported "Free Speech". Among those surveyed 11.1% of Millennials and 3.2% of older Americans responded "Not if it's hate speech".
The majority believed in Freedom of Speech except in specific circumstances (such as calls to violence or harassment.) 88.89% of Millennials and 96.72% believed in Freedom of Speech.
III.) Gender
When asked "Do you believe there are more than two genders?"
25% of Millennials and 17.74% of older Americans indicated that they did.
The majority, 75% of Millennials and 82.26% believed that there were only two genders: male and female.
IV.) Feminism
Respondents were asked: "Do you believe Modern Western Feminism/Third Wave Feminism is/has:"
Still focused on equality
Lost its way
19.44% of Millennials and 22.95% of older Americans responded that it was"Still focused on equality."
While most Americans thought that Modern Feminism had "lost its way": 80.56% of Millennials and 77.05% of older Americans believed this.
V.) Islam and Acts of Terrorism
The Americans were then asked about Islam and terrorism: "Is terrorism committed in the name of Islam due to Islam?"
There was a significant gap between the two groups: 55.56% of Millennials and 72.58% of older Americans responded "yes".
While 44.44% of Millennials and 27.42% of older Americans responded "no".
As a final question Americans were asked what trumped what: Facts or feelings?
5.71% of Millennial Americans and 3.23% of older Americans reported that feelings trump facts.
94.29% of Millennials and 96.77% of older Americans reported that facts trump feelings.

In this small scale Survey 45 Canadians were Millennials (born after 1981) and 55 were older Canadians.
II.) Free Speech
Respondents were asked "Do you support "Free Speech"?
More millennials (20.45%) than older Canadians (14.55%) responded with "not if it's hate speech."
While the majority of Canadians support free speech, there was 79.55% supported Free Speech among Millennials and 85.45% of older Canadians supported Free Speech.

III.) Gender
When asked whether they believe that there are more than two genders 42.22% of Millennials and 34.55% of older Canadians indicated that they did. The majority of Canadians responded "No: there are only two genders": 57.78% of Millennials and 65.45% of older Canadians responded in this way.
IV.) Feminism
A clear division between younger and older Canadians exists when they were asked about Modern Feminism. When asked: "Do you believe Modern Western Feminism/Third Wave Feminism is/has:"
Still focused on equality
Has lost its way
29.55% of Millennials indicated they thought it was still focused on equality, while 40% of older Canadians agreed.
The majority of both millennials (70.45%) and older Canadians (60%) said that they thought Modern Feminism had lost its way.
V.) Islam
Respondents were asked about Islam and terrorism: "Is terrorism committed in the name of Islam due to Islam?" 46.67% of Millennials and 49.09% of older Canadians responded with the affirmative. 53.33% of Millennials and 50.91% of older Canadians responded in the negative.
